4th of July on Nantucket
If you are spending the Fourth of July on the idyllic island of Nantucket this year, read on for our guide to the learn about all the festivities taking place.
Stroll through a farmer's market:
On the Fourth of July the Main Street Area on the island is bustling with patriotic activity. Start your day at Sustainable Nantucket’s Farmers Market. Take a stroll through the market and find delicious organic produce and a variety of gifts made by local artisans.
Celebrate history:
At 9:00, stop at the Unitarian Universalist Church to hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence. This celebration of the declaration is a tradition that has taken place for the last 25 years.
Cool off with a Nantucket tradition:
Another island tradition taking place in this area is the Annual Water Competition, but if you’re in attendance prepare to get soaked! The Nantucket Fire Department and Boynton Lane Reserves will compete to fill 55-gallon drums with water.
Enjoy the beach:
Spend the day at Children’s Beach where there will be activities and festivities all day long. In the morning listen to patriotic tunes, including the singing of the national anthem. Throughout the day there will be a variety of fun activities, including a cornhole tournament, facepainting, a puppet show, bike parade, and children’s games.
The grand finale of festivities:
End the holiday at Jetties Beach with a phenomenal fireworks display. Enjoy roughly 30 minutes of fireworks being shot off just off the shore and simultaneously listen to patriotic music being broadcast over the radio.
